Whoa, Slow Down!

It appears that I’ve lost the plot! I described my Blog as “A gentle walk into the past” and I went galloping away, covering 20 years in three pages. That is not good.

So, I’ve decided not to continue in this way, but just slow down to a steady trot and pick out events and accomplishments along the way. I’m told my readers (both of you!) are probably completely breathless by now.

I explained in the Introduction why I called my Blog “God and Asda” and up to now God has hardly had a mention. (or ASDA come to that – but more of that later)

It wasn’t until 1981, at the age of 39, that I gave my life to the Lord. I know now, of course, that He’s been there all the time, I was just a little dilatory, that’s all! We went to Sunday School, as most kids do, but my parents attended church only for Christenings and Weddings, so church was never a part of my young life.

I’ve discovered, sadly, that a lot of people genuinely believe that if they live in England then they are Christians – wrong! They say “I’ve never hurt anyone, or stolen anything, so I am a Christian” – wrong again” There is only one way to Heaven and that’s through Jesus Christ.

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come and eat with him and he with me. (Revelation Chapter 3 verse 20)

You know, God must be very sad seeing what we’ve done to His beautiful Creation. He made it perfect in the beginning, from nothing. The Bible tells us:

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the water” (Genesis Chap.1 verses 1 and 2 N.I.V.).

You can’t have it spelled out any clearer than that, can you?

This has often led me to thoughts of “How did He do it?” We, with our finite minds cannot imagine how this could be. We have to have something before we can make something else. One thing that I ask people when they say “Well, come on then, prove it!” is “Can Man make water from anything without using water?” We can boil water, to make steam, that becomes water again – but we cannot make water from nothing. Imagine the depth of the oceans – so deep that no light can penetrate. And a star so far away that the Hubble telescope has only recently discovered it. If that’s not awesome enough for you, try this one. Think of your own body. You can move without any exterior power source – no batteries required!; you can think – how?, you can talk – how? I could go on and on but in the end you just have to admit that God did a pretty good job when He made us. Just think of the miracle of birth. Now that’s really awesome. From a tiny seed a baby grows, with eyes and hands and nails and hair. Am I convincing you yet?

I think that one of the problems that people have is some expressions that are used by Christians. Have you ever heard any of the following?

1. Sin (Romans 3 verses 22 to 26)
2. Redemption (John 3 verse 16)
3. Being saved (Acts 2 verse 21: Acts 16 verse 31)

If you don’t know Jesus as your Lord and Saviour and have a Bible, I urge you to read these passages. All this has to be said, because it’s part of my life and I want to share it with you.

I’ll leave it with you. God Bless.
